Brett Donahue
Brett is an actor, filmmaker, and theatre creator originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba and is a graduate of The National Theatre School of Canada. Since completing his studies, he has had the opportunity of appearing in a number of theatres across the country including The National Arts Centre in Ottawa starring in a production of Romeo and Juliet. He has also had the privilege of being in the Canadian Premiere’s of Matthew Lopez’ The Whipping Man, Ivan Viripaev’ Illusions, and Jackie Sibblies Drury’ We Are Proud…. Brett’s Film and Television work has been seen on networks such as CBC, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Shudder, USA Network, CBS, CW, Hallmark and Lifetime and as well as in Columbia Pictures and Universal Studios. His independent film work has been featured in film festivals across the world, including the Toronto International Film Festival, Madrid International Film Festival, Dances with Films Festival (Los Angeles), the Fantasia Festival of Montreal, the International Urban Film Festival, in Tehran, and many more. He co-produced/co-starred in his first short film entitled “Come Back”, which had its world premiere at The Canadian Film Festival and The Women in Film Festival. Brett’s first extension into play translation came with the play Siri, created by the acclaimed company, La Messe Basse. He was selected to attend the Glassco Translation Residency in Tadoussac, Quebec, preparing the translation of Siri, which had its English language premiere at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2018, Brett returned to Toronto’s Luminato Festival, to revisit and expand the verbatim theatre production of Out the Window, a play that follows the prevalence of police brutality enacted on underprivileged communities. In early 2020, he had the privilege of making his theatrical debut in the French language, performing in Corps Célestes at Montreal’s Centre du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui. His most recent film, SLAXX, was named one of the 13 best horror films of 2021 by the Oscar’s Academy. When elsewhere Brett can be found plunking melodies out on a piano, and riding motorcycles.
